Joseph Proetzner
St. James the Greater

1753-55
Church of St. Peter, Munich

Following the traditional iconography, the statue gives St. James a walking staff, pilgrim's hat, gourd, and three scallop-shell badges. As in the other statues of Apostles lining the sides of the nave, he is barefoot. The inscription at the bottom of the podium is St. Jakobus sen., "St. James Senior." (He was called "the Greater" because he was believed to be older than the other Apostle James.)
